Advantages of Vickers hardness tester testing

The Vickers hardness tester is used for measuring the Vickers hardness value of thinner materials. Using a rhombic diamond indenter, press it into the surface of the specimen under the action of experimental force, maintain it for a specified time, remove the experimental force, and measure the diagonal length of the indentation on the surface of the specimen. The indentation of the Vickers hardness tester is square, with clear contours and accurate diagonal measurements. Therefore, the Vickers hardness tester is one of the commonly used hardness testing methods with high accuracy, and its repeatability is also good, which is superior to the Brinell hardness tester.
The Vickers hardness tester has a wide measurement range and can measure almost all metal materials currently used in industry, from very soft materials (several Vickers hardness units) to very hard materials (3000 Vickers hardness units).
The advantage of Vickers hardness tester testing is that its hardness value is independent of the magnitude of the test force. As long as the material has uniform hardness, the test force can be chosen arbitrarily, and its hardness value remains unchanged. This is equivalent to having a unified scale within a wide range of hardness. This is superior to the Rockwell hardness test.
Within the range of medium and low hardness values, Vickers hardness test and Brinell hardness test results will obtain approximate hardness values on the same uniform material. The testing force of the Vickers hardness tester can be as small as 10gF, and the indentation is very small, making it particularly suitable for testing thin and small materials.
